About Tits For Tots: Breastfeeding For Families

All children deserve to get their best chance. Their best chance can mean the education they get, the loved ones that care for them, or even the food they get as an infant. Tits for Tots: Breastfeeding for Families (TFT: BFF) was founded with the idea, hope, and dream that every child can get the “Golden Liquid” that is breast milk. Every baby deserves to get the best quality food without causing their parents to go broke. There are so many different family dynamics, and we hope to help all of you! Whether you are a mother who cannot produce, a mother who cannot produce enough, an adoption parent, or even a father, we hope to get your baby the delicious delicacy that is breast milk.

The idea of TFT: BFF is for a mother, or father, in need, is paired with a mother who produces more than what they need. This way, you can know where your milk is coming from, where your milk is going, be in contact with each other if something happens, and maybe make a family connection along the way! TFT: BFF will simply be there as a back up, to make connections, intake parents, and provide what we can for our families.

Currently, we are only working on providing services to Columbia County, Oregon. We hope to one day be able to provide milk bags, pump parts, and toys for our families.

About the Founder

Hello, my name is Marie Peterson the creator of Tits For Tots: Breastfeeding for Families. I wanted to take a moment and share a little bit about myself, my story, and why I started this group.

It really starts way back in the day when I was a child. I remember my biological baby brother was breastfed when he was an infant. I never really gave it much thought, other than how much it hurt to get bit by the tiny baby teeth. Several years later, my baby sister was foster - adopted into our family. When she was an infant, we gave her formula in a bottle. I, again, didn’t give it too much thought. Infact, I liked it because then I could feed the baby.

Fast forward to many years later when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. Feeding was never really a question. I knew I was going to breastfeed. As my pregnancy progressed, I did research, and took classes on breastfeeding. I began to think about my baby sister. In my research and classes, I found that breast milk is the best thing you can give your infant. It is full of needed proteins, sugar, vitamins, and other necessary components a baby needs. Formula may have some needed ingredients, however, breast milk is better. It is literally made for babies, and to suit a baby's needs. It got me thinking about my baby sister… She didn’t get breast milk. But why?

Right after I had my baby, I wasn’t producing enough due to her low blood sugar. I was pumping after every feeding to catch up. I eventually was pumping too much! It got to the point where I had to pump every night to sleep comfortably and every morning to get out all of the overnight milk. I built up a stockpile that was starting to fill all of the room in both of my freezers! I needed to get rid of it, and I was still adding to the freezer when I returned to work. About 3 months after having my baby, I saw a momma friend in need asking for milk. Without hesitation, I offered her my milk. I started to think about my sister. This momma. How many other babies are out there that don’t get breastmilk? What can I do about it? I knew that you could buy donor milk… for $4 an ounce. It’s not fair that babies don’t get the best of the best, unless they bankrupt their parents.

I know I wanted to donate my milk, but I also wanted to know where it wasn going. I also thought it would be nice to know where it was coming from if I was a receiving momma. This is what started Tits for Tots: Breastfeeding for Families. If you are a momma in need, or a momma with milk to give, please send me an Email at admin@titsfortots.org Thank you, and have a wonderful day!
